Stopping Place (Rurik’s Version)

Rurik wakes up after a night of drinking and finds a scrap of paper with some words scrawled down. It’s in his handwriting. The paper says:

Ridoth, druid, thundertree, west of neverwinter woods

“Complete gibberish!” he says to himself.

Stopping Place

The gamg has stopped in Phandalin. The plan is to search for a druid named Ridoth, somewhere west of Neverwinter Woods. He may have helpful information on Iarno and the Black Spider.

The Short Version

The gang meets Agatha the Banshee and trades a silver comb from Sister Garaele for information about a dangerous wizard spellbook. Agatha reveals that the spellbook is in the hands of a powerful necromancer, Tsernoth of Irobar. Sister Garaele makes it clear that the gang should not seek out and fight the necromancer.

Episode 1: Encounter at Coneyberry

Still high from their latest victory, the gang decides to take on a banshee.

Two days later, they arrive in the village of Coneyberry and find the town completely abandoned. Indeed there appears to be no signs of life besides the mystical grove in which dwells a banshee, and, seriously, does that even count as life?

It is at this moment that the gang remembers that they’re not actually here to fight the banshee—they’re here to retrieve information for Sister Garaele.

Episode 2: The Naked Then

You see, weeks before she entrusted our heroes with the knowledge that this banshee has knowledge about a wizard who possesses knowledge, knowledge that is the equivalent of a nuclear football. This nuclear football is, in fact, a wizard spellbook, capable of destruction the likes of which the world has never seen. Naturally, its whereabouts are not known, but what is known is that Agatha the Banshee may know where it lies. Sister Garaele, who is also a Freemason or Harper or something, has sought this knowledge from the banshee.

However, for reasons that are forgotten by yours truely, Agatha does not wish to deal with dear sister anymore. But that doesn’t stop this sister. She searches through the inhabitants of Phandalin with a fine-tooth comb, until she finds someone that she can entrust with her most prized possession—a silver comb. She asks the gang, some members of which are the trustworthy heroic type, if they can offer the comb in exchange for information from Agatha.

Episode 3: Code of Honor

Having remembered their purpose in coming to this gods-forsaken place, our paladin and bard decide to approach the mystic grove, so as to not startle Agatha or provoke a fight. They cautiously offer the silver comb, and the banshee agrees to answer one question.

It is at this point that Rurik realizes he has many questions:

But just in time, he remembers his promise to the good sister, and asks for the whereabouts of the nuclear spellbook.

Agatha doesn’t know the exact location, but she knows who has the book—Tsernoth of Irobar, a powerful necromancer who acquired the spellbook over 100 years ago. Armed with this new information, Rurik informs the gang of their new quest—finding and defeating the dark necromancer, in spite of his 100 year head start.

Episode 4: The Last Campfire

On their 3 day journey home, the gang gets attacked by ghouls in the middle of the night. In the nick of time, Rurik remembers that ghouls are undead, and paladins can Turn the Unholy, so he does. And there was much rejoicing.

Episode 5: Where Everybody Knows Your Name

The gang gets back to Phandalin and talks to Sister Garaele, Harbin Westor, and Sildar Hallwinter. They receive their loot, escort some townspeople to the great hall, and make plans to search for druid named Ridoth.
